Israeli Salad

Salad for Breakfast!?

I originally ran across Israeli Salad when I watched hipster-hottie Alex Van Buren do a NY Chow Report video about the Sabich Sandwich, at New York restaurant Taim. The sandwich sounded wonderful so I researched and found recipes. I never did make the full sandwich but I made the Israeli Salad and used it as side for barbecue chicken.

 Recently I was watching a Globe Trekker show about Israel. One of the guides mentioned that it was traditional to use Israeli Salad for breakfast. Now there is a stunning idea, a nice cool healthy salad to start the day. My version of the salad has chopped tomato, cucumber, parsley, red onion, dressed with lemon juice, olive oil and salt. Just add a little feta and you could call it a Greek Salad.  Here are links to a great website  Israel Food Guide.com that has a base recipe for the salad plus lots of information about Israeli Breakfast and other traditions. Salad for breakfast is a new concept to me, but as I read, I found it surprisingly inviting. Must try, if not for breakfast, at least for lunch. Thanks.

Zoomie- I really enjoy it.The salad can multitask. It stands alone but is a great topper for sandwiches,burgers and chicken.

If I have left over Pico de Gallo it will be used at breakfast time. Your salad looks refreshing and tasty. I will have to give it a try.

Chilebrown- It is very similar to Pico. It holds up well and would be a great side for a 4th of July picnic.
