What the Heck? Call it a Cocktail!

We bought a watermelon and a Tuscan melon this week. I asked myself, 'What the heck am I going to do with all that melon?' I had just read a blog by Zoomie about a fun drink she consumed at a local upscale restaurant. That gave me this idea for using up the big old watermelon. I pureed the pulp with a bit of water in the blender and strained in through a sieve into a bowl. The watermelon juice was not as sweet as I wanted so I added some agave syrup. I squeezed the juice of a lime into the mixture to add a tart acid taste. It chilled in the refer for a couple hours and became a refreshing hot day summer beverage. Wonderful over ice! If you are inclined you could add your favorite alcohol and call it a cocktail.

It's stunning. And so refined - you strained it!
Cranky is in trouble for forgetting to buy a watermelon at the market yesterday.
Well, there's always Sunday.

cookiecrumb-Thanks. It is a great time of year for the market. I may even fight the crowds this Sunday.

If I may? You don't need to add any water when you blend the melon; it will keep more of the flavor/sweetness that way. I love the color of your creation and I know it had to be really refreshing.

Twice recently I've had melon combined with tomatoes -- something I wouldn't have thunk up myself. In both cases, the melon and maters were diced really fine (cantaloup in one mince, watermelon in another) and touched really lightly with a citrus, probably lime. One was served with scallop ceviche, the other as a salsa. Easy to save back a couple of hunks of melon to use another way.

kudzu- I tried to puree the melon without the water but failed. Maybe it is my ancient blender. I love the idea of the tomato/melon salsa and will experiment with that soon. Thanks!
