I've Got Shoes Older Than That!

My father had a saying, "I've got shoes older than that!" It was applied when he felt someone declared profound knowledge at a young age. I must say I think about this saying when I view the latest telegenic youngster pop up on food shows or in print. The standard premise is they went to culinary school and traveled outside the U.S. and found the secrets to food. Well, that accounts for three years. I've got shoes older than that!

Recently I had to change my thought process. I was watching Kelsey Nixon on The Cooking Channel. She said you could cook turkey breast in the slow cooker and come up with a moist turkey meat sandwich and jus for dipping. I thought that was a horrible idea but I tried it and it works. You lose the crispy skin that comes with roasting but you get in return a buttery, onion broth. I subbed cheddar cheese for Gruyere because it was available. Even though I've got shoes older than her, I must admit the girl has some skills!

What a good idea if you plan to use it for sammies. I might try that this week when I have a boatload of family coming for a wedding.

I have finally allowed myself to say I don't like turkey. But that dipping jus! I want that.

cookiecrumb- The jus is so good! you could dip roast beef or use it as soup a la french onion with bread and cheese.
