How do you Tuna?

Tuna salad is one of those recipes that mom made best. Like meat sauce, mac and cheese and sloppy joes - your taste buds crave what your mom made when you were a kid. There so many variations and each and everyone has a following. My version of tuna salad has chopped celery, shallots, mayo, lemon juice, salt and cracked pepper. I am not recommending my recipe. I am suggesting that you make it your way with one exception. Substitute coarsely smashed garbanzo beans and behold the results. It really tastes like tuna salad or so say those of my people who tried it. I know this is not a radical new idea. I came across this idea a while back and thought I should try it but now can't remember where I saw it. Will it make a vegetarian out of me? No probably not but it sure does taste good!

I always made my Mom's, too (tuna, mayo, sweet pickle relish and celery) until a friend introduced me to tuna salad with raw broccoli chopped finely and added (minus the sweet pickle relish) and now I'm sold on that. There is something magical about the combo of tuna and broccoli - the best I've ever tasted.
