It was time to man up and realize that my tomato plants probably won't produce much of a crop this year. Oh yeah, I've been whining about their demise by cool weather and ruthless deer. No more of that. I gave in to my annual urge for tomatoes and paid $3.99 a pound for some homely looking heirlooms. They were wonderful! Some times you have to pay to play. A little coarse salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and fresh mozzarella made a superb starter.

Now, that wasn't so bad, was it? They are worth every penny.
