Smashburger Shaking it Up!

Lately I've been blogging about my adventures at sea and neglecting my local restaurants. Earlier this year a up and coming burger chain called Smashburger opened a branch nearby. I charged myself with stopping by and checking it out. Well that was months ago and I never made it. That changed yesterday.

I think I am quite qualified to review a burger place. Flipping burgers helped pay for my first years of college and today I still consider myself a consummate home burger maker. The name Smashburger comes from a unique method of preparation that literally smashes a portion of meat on a flat top griddle . If you want to see the method go to YouTube and search Tom Ryan Smashburger for a video.

We hit the place on Sunday morning around 10:30 for a burger "brunch." Our order consisted of a bacon and cheese "Big Smash"(over a 1/2 pound), Smash Fries (seasoned with Rosemary) and a Häagen-Dazs raspberry sorbet shake. The shake is a limited offering and benefits the Susan G. Komen  foundation, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I really was not expecting an OMG! moment on this Sunday morning, but it was. The first words out of Avril's mouth, after the food-gasmic  moans, was "juicy burger!" I concur. This was definitely  a multiple napkin burger. The fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and hot and tender inside. Another OMG for the shake. This is a old school shake whipped in a metal container that comes to the table with the leftover portion that won't fit in the glass. The service was fast and courteous and the server actually smiled. A smashing experience!

This one is in Novato in the old Denny's location between Mcdonalds and Peet's.

You cannot beat (smash) the combination of a good burger, fries and shake.
