Don't Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth

After unplugging from electronics for a bit it feels good to blog again. I decided to accompany Avril to the south-lands for a few days. San Diego is always beautiful on our visits. I'm sure it must rain at some time or another but we left rain in the Bay Area for sunny skies. We took Amtrak Coast Starlight to L.A. and transferred to Amtrak Surfliner for the final leg to San Diego arriving after midnight, spot on time. We headed for the hotel we had booked well in advance, with a credit card guarantee. I had confirmed out late arrival  a week before knowing the hotel was booked for that evening. Much to our surprise they had no room for us! I was madder than a boiled owl. I had heard of hotels over booking but not experienced it. I had visions of sleeping in the street with one eye open. The desk man was eloquent and apologetic and assured us they had secured a room for us at nearby competitor and they would pay for it with no charge for our lost room. I did the math and realized this would be a financial windfall but still felt a little cheated. A short cab ride later we entered The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. It was late so no time to explore. Just a night cap and an extremely comfortable bed was all it took change my mood.

The next morning we awoke to see what a fantastic property this was. A resort like setting with views of the hotels own marina. Guess where we will stay on our next trip?

Aw, serendipity, man! I can't believe they paid for your room. Cool.

Zoomie- I am very cat like sometimes.;)
cookiecrumb- The desk guy had just come on duty and realized the previous shift had made a mistake. He had a letter all typed up to pay for the room and a cab standing by. Avril said he looked scared. It might have been my unhappy face :(
